As you go along in your network marketing business, there are some strategies that will help you tremendously. People ask me all the time what are my favorite MLM prospecting techniques. The truth is, you’ve heard its a numbers game. While this is true, the better you get the more the numbers will be in your favor. When we are just getting started, we have to make up in numbers what we lack in skills. Not that we necessarily lack skills, but at the beginning, our skills specifically around MLM prospecting might not be that strong. When I first got started, before I knew about the law of attraction, before Facebook, before i knew any MLM prospecting techniques … I would just go after sheer numbers. Jim Rohn said “if I am new and recruit 1 out of 10, and you are a seasoned professional and recruit 9 out of 10… Then I will out recruit you every week. You will do 10 presentations, and recruit 9. I’ll do 100 presentations, and recruit 10”. So yes, it is a numbers game for sure. But if you apply these MLM prospecting techniques you will greatly improve your recruiting stats.

What are the 5 MLM prospecting techniques your upline didn’t teach you?

The key to this process is to make an appointment. Lawyers make appointments. Doctors make appointments. Professionals make appointments. If you need help learning how to make appointments – I cover that in this blog post about the art of making appointments.
Once you make an appointment, you are going to show your prospect your company video presentation. This one little tip will help you tremendously. Most people just “send” a video or email someone some information. That is a mistake. Make an appointment, then show your video, then follow up – immediately – with this set of questions. When I say immediately, I mean, right there- while they are on the phone. The best time to follow up, is right after they watch the video.

5 MLM Prospecting Techniques That Your Upline Didn’t Tell You

  1. What did you like best? This sets your prospect up to answer positively about your company presentation. This is so much more effective then “did you like it” or “what did you think”? – this one subtle (or not so subtle) tip will help you tremendously.
  2. How much money would you need to make to make it worth your while? Most people will give you a direct monetary answer. Most common answers are $1,000, $2,000, $5,000 or $10,000 per month. When they give you a number, ask them why and how that amount will help them in their life. Get them specifically detailing why and for what they need the money. Having them spend it in their head. This is a crucial step in the prospecting process.
  3. How many hours would you commit? Once you have them spending the money, ask how many hours they will commit weekly to hit their monthly of income. Now you are helping them paint a picture. This puts attention on the fact this is actually a business and will help you attract business partners. By identifying how much they want to make, why they want to make it, and how many hours a week hey will commit… You will set your new team mates up for success.
  4. How many months? Next of the 5 MLM prospecting techniques is to ask how many months they will work said number of hours per week until they are making said number of dollars per month. With this question you handle autoship, long term mindset and eliminate the lottery mentality.
  5. If I can show you how to do that, would you get started today? So Mr. Prospect, if I can show you how to make (fill in the blank) amount of money per month, while working less then (fill in the blank) number of hours per week, in less then (fill in the blank) number of months … Would you get started today or would you have a question for me?
