Change Your Thinking...

Surely you’ve heard the sayings, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade; when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Well, there are many other cliches and sayings that cover the topic but the fact of the matter is that we have to be positive thinkers! Intentionally positive thinkers. We need to make the best of any situation that flies at us, no matter what happens. A lot of things are going to happen, especially if you’re starting your own business. A lot of things are going to get in the way of you reaching your goals in this industry. This doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, the easier you make it, the easier and more fun it becomes!

Change your thinking, change your life

Make this your new mantra. It’s actually quite relaxing, comforting, and empowering. Why is that? It’s because it enables you. By allowing yourself the ability to change your thoughts, you automatically empower yourself to change your life. At the same time, you provide yourself with the ability to change your life simply by thinking about it differently. You are no longer bound by the old thoughts and ways. You are totally free to think outside the box. There is a lot of power in that; and comfort.

I’m not trying to be crass or unsympathetic. Let’s face it. We all get our share of curve balls, rainy days, and flat tires. It’s a bummer, true. Some of these last minutes. Some last lifetimes. You can complain or throw a pity party for yourself, but what do you get out of that? Do you really feel better or just get yourself more depressed when people around you tire quickly and back away. It doesn’t have to be that way. Even the seemingly insurmountable is tolerable with the right mindset. It’s a choice. They can, who think they can.

The Importance of Choosing Your Attitude

When it seems that everyone is out to get you, you must decide to maintain a positive attitude. It may not happen overnight. That’s OK. You may need to evolve through the natural psychological phases but eventually you will need to do something productive with yourself. Do this consciously and proactively. Take control – don’t let it just happen – and take action. Look towards those people or things that help you through and regain a positive attitude:

  • Your Faith
  • A favorite song
  • A favorite book
  • The memory of someone whose company you enjoy
  • Positive affirmation
  • A conversation with someone you’re comfortable with
  • A mentor

Start with simple action – read an uplifting book or watch a good personal development video. Perhaps you would like to share something about yourself and start a blog. Do you have some good ideas and some general ambition? Work on evolving your business. Who knows – those lemons may ultimately open up a whole new world to you that you never even knew existed! That which doesn’t knock you down makes you stronger! All this from a simple, albeit new, mantra: Change your thinking, change your life!

There are also a ton of online resources that can help you re-acquire a positive attitude. Google Jack Canfield’s Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books for starters. You can surely spend a lot of time creating an endless list.

    I truly believe in change your thinking, change your life. I always find solace in my favorite music playlist or a movie. It not only brings back some nostalgia but almost instantly makes me forget what I was mad about.
