How to Blog for Business

How to blog for businessLearning the difference between “blogging” and how to blog for business is not trivial so we thought it would be beneficial to bring it to light here. Enjoy!
One of the first things that we tell everyone who comes to the team here at DrewBerman.com and YouOnlineYouOffline.com looking for ways to get their online presence bigger and more attractive (in the magnetic sense) is that they need to have a blog. Yet we are not advocating blogging as an online diary chronicling each and every event in one’s life. We are talking about learning how to blog for business, which is fundamentally very different. They keyword here is branding, and one of the steps that can be taken is the concept of how to blog for business.

Learning how to blog for business starts with, well, starting!

It can be difficult to begin and sustain a constant flow of content when you are learning how to blog for business. Blogging for the fun of it is easy in the sense that there are always things to write about, whether they represent valuable content or cataloging memories. You see it a lot if you spend some of your valuable time wandering around the News Feed on Facebook. People love to tell you what they are up to, but does that carry value in your life? Most likely, it doesn’t. This is why learning how to blog for business is different and vital to building your personal brand.
The first concept that you have to get into your thought process is why you are blogging in the first place. What is it that you know a lot about and can speak clearly on that will be of value to a lot of people in the Internet cloud? What is going to attract people to your site and compel them to enter their contact info into your capture form (do you have one?) and keep them coming back for more? In other words, who are you and what do you have to say about something that may be important to others? Choose a theme for starting your blog that is oriented toward your business and portray yourself as an expert through your posts.

Plan how to blog for business

The next concept to wrap your head around is planning. Make a long and detailed outline of the topics that you want to blog about for the next ten, fifteen and more entries. This will help you to keep your blog posts short and to the point, while being packed full of valuable content. This is how to blog for business – what it is all about.
Keep your entries concise and meaningful. A blog entry doesn’t need to be two or three pages of text. 300-500 words are plenty for communicating something of value when you are blogging for business. If you have a long article that you want to release as blog entries, break it into segments and publish each one as a new entry. This is useful in bringing people back to your site to see what the next segment holds – if you are writing well.
A key point here that I need to mention is to have someone proofread your work before you publish it. Our brains are miracle machines and will auto-correct something that we have written. You instead of Your and other misspellings that our mind will gloss over will reveal themselves to a new reader. Also, they can tell you if the concepts are clear and well written, or whether to take a bit more time to clarify or illustrate a point. Remember, the key to truly knowing how to blog for business is to understand that you are branding yourself so you need to take time and re-read everything with a magnifying glass perspective.
While this is all useful and important, the most important step is to get started. If you have never written a blog entry, whether it be for a personal blog or blogging for business, you will only get really good at it when you start to do it and then practice, practice, practice. Enjoy yourself and see what happens! Let your personality shine through. That is what people want to see, and that is why they will come back.
