So now you’re cranking out material and your blog looks fantastic, but you still can’t get people engaged and active on your site and social media. Don’t be discouraged! The first comment and like are always the hardest to get. There’s a quote from the great Mari Smith (aka Top Social Media Influencer, Author, Speaker)… she says, “Content is king, but engagement is queen and she rules the house.” This is the thing you have to remember if you want to increase audience engagement. What does this mean?
Well, in short, you can’t just assume that people know what you want them to do.
Just because you write a blog doesn’t mean that your audience will know that they should share it. You need to tell them! Tell them that you would love it if they shared/liked/commented, but make sure you’re not too pushy or aggressive about it. Remember, you’re here to help people solve problems with what you know; not bark orders at them! You want them to almost feel compelled to share your content. That’s how good it needs to be!
I’ve learned some great tips about engagement from my mentor and an all around great guy, Ray Higdon. He told me that an easy way to get some engagement in your posts on your blog or social media is to make sure you say, “Feel free to share/tag/comment if you got some value”. Like I said before, make sure your language is appropriate for the venue you’re posting on.
Another great strategy on how to get followers is “bribing”.
Yes, I said bribing! Don’t go off and tell your audience that you will give them loads of cash for liking or sharing… that would not be productive! A simple example of a to “bribe” your audience is by saying, “If you like or share this, you’ll be able to get a free download of my webinar”. Webinars and videos are a great way to give people something that they want — they want to see you, they want you to talk to them face to face.
Also, don’t forget about giveaways! People love to get free things! Tell your audience that they can be entered into a drawing for a free copy of a book if they like/share/comment or sign up with their email address. I bet you will get lots of traffic into your social media page or blog. Even if you don’t, you will still have improved your email list a ton!
That’s all for today’s lesson on how to increase audience engagement and get followers. If you got some value out of this, or know someone who might, please feel free to like/share/comment If you’d like to talk more about audience engagement, be sure to contact me directly so we can schedule a meeting! I look forward to hearing from all of you wonderful people!
