The Security Myth

In our parents and grandparents day, they were taught to get a good job, work hard and retire with a stable pension and Social Security. That would be enough. According The Wall Street Journal online, a person in today’s era will have seven, count them, SEVEN careers in their lifetime, but we are still touting the mantra of GET A GOOD JOB AND STAY PUT!
That is a myth, just like the sun revolved around the earth was a myth. Funny, in The Dark Ages, you would be put to death if you claimed otherwise, and even in today’s ever changing world of careers, you will still be ridiculed and scoffed at if you preach anything other than this Kool Aid drinking fallacy that a job is secure.

Now, enter true security. True security is created in residual income, commissions, spiffs, bonuses and a lifestyle that allows true financial freedom. You see, residual income is a power unto its own, you do the work once and get paid for it for the rest of your life. Commissions allow you to get paid what you are worth, not what someone else says you are worth. Bonuses, spiffs, trips, incentives, those are all associated with performance based incomes, not “secure” time clock based incomes.
However, the challenge to the security of residual and commission based incomes is that you are your own boss and it is up to you to manage your time. This can be quite challenging and explains why these careers are occupied by those that take the road less traveled. But, this road was traveled by men and women of tremendous wealth because true secure incomes are limitless and are not determined by what the market says you are worth. Individuals like Elizabeth Taylor, Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Andrew Carnegie, Michael Jordan, Martha Stewart, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are those that have traveled the true road to security and never considered the myth of get a good job and stay put.
Yes, it is a risk filled road, but consider this… look at the amount of senior citizens living below the poverty level, working at McDonald’s, Wal Mart, on food stamps, living with their children and grandchildren. They bought the myth, but here’s the beauty of residual income and commissioned opportunities, it’s never too late to get started and make an incredible life for yourself! Get started today, what are you waiting for?
Check out what the Wall Street Journal had to say, then leave a comment below and tell me why you think you’re secure…
Best to you!

Wow, another good blog! The security myth got me thinking of how much I conform to society way of thinking. Graduate high school, go to college, get a degree, then a job would come right after. It seems I was pursing the road most taken. Didn’t Robert Frost pen a poem about the road not taken? Maybe you guys have a point. I shouldn’t conform myself to one way but be able to venture out and do my own thing. No one is just going to hand me a job just because I have a degree. Sure, there are risks involve in pursing something, but like you mention about traveling to a “true road to security” must be willingly to squash the myth. Like Frost said, “ I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference”.

Funny, I see people in the occupy movement that have swallowed the security myth hook, line and sinker, so much so that they are shutting down business and interrupting jobs because they did not get the one they think they deserve!
